In a press release, the company’s VP of Artificial Intelligence said: we need to weight the positive use cases for facial recognition against growing societal concerns, especially as regulators have yet to provided clear rules.
This updates follows Facebook’s recent rebrand to Meta and highlights the company’s newly prioritized commitment to protecting the privacy of its users.
The press release that the company will continue working on facial recognition technology and plans to re-introduce it once the AI personal recognition niche is better regulated, and with privacy, transparency and control measures in place.
Prospects use cases that developers will be focusing on include verifying an individual’s identity and preventing fraud and impersonation.
Facebook changes parent company’s corporate name to Meta
On October 28th, Facebook went live with a major rebrands that included changing the company’s corporate name to Meta and they provided many latest updates of Facebook .
The new name to Facebook’s plan to focus future developments around the “metaverse” (a virtual space where users can digitally interact with others and with their surroundings. )
Meta is now the parent company for all Facebook’s social platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp) and AR/VR businesses (including oculus). Our mission remains the same _it’s still about bringing people together. But now we have a new North star to help bring the metaverse to life, and we have a new name that reflects the full breadth of what we do and the future that we want to help build .
The name change will not affect any of Facebook’s social platform. Facebook, the social network is and will still be called Facebook.
